The Ohio Democratic Party staffer caught on tape smearing Ohioans and saying he wants the border open may still be employed with the Sherrod Brown and Emilia Sykes Senate and congressional campaigns.
In a shocking video, staffer Kevin Oyakawa, an Ohio Democratic Party operative working on behalf of Brown and Sykes, repudiated Ohioans’ “pure racism” over the unpopularity of the Biden-Harris administration’s open border.
Brown’s and Sykes’ campaigns and social media accounts had not issued statements as of the time of publication, nor has the Ohio Democratic Party confirmed to Ohio.news whether Oyakawa’s remarks represent the party’s outlook on the border or Ohioans themselves.
Oyakawa’s LinkedIn and social media accounts went dark last week, and the Ohio Democratic Party’s stance on the rant remains unclear.
Oyakawa said in the video he wants the border wide open and claimed Ohioans’ favor to ending the open border and for mass deportations were the reason Democrats in Ohio were silent on the matter.
“It’s a losing issue for us,” he said.
Brown has been aloof on the border, refusing to say this summer whether he backed Biden’s amnesty plan. Brown and Sykes have consistently ducked the issue, as the Democratic Party continues its lurch leftward.
The vulnerable Brown notably sat out the DNC convention in August. Brown and GOP challenger Bernie Moreno are in a dead heat in the nation’s closest Senate contest, with Brown trailing Moreno by just one point.
