Ohio SOS LaRose sues Biden-Harris administration to purge non-citizens from state's voter rolls

By John Zambenini on Oct 30, 2024

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has sued the Biden-Harris administration over its efforts to stop Ohio from purging noncitizens from voter rolls.

The suit claims Alejandro Mayorkas’ embattled Department of Homeland Security failed to give access to federal citizenship verification records needed to keep non-citizens from casting ballots.

LaRose says the Biden-Harris administration is blocking access to three federal databases needed to accurately verify registered voters’ citizenship status. While Ohio does have access to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration’s SAVE data, LaRose contends the data doesn’t have what’s needed to verify voters’ citizenship status and the blocked databases are required by law.

LaRose’s office referred 600 people for prosecution last month over voter registration ineligibility. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost indicted six others for voting in multiple elections.

Critics at The Ohio Capital Journal, which is backed by the Hopewell Fund and 1630 Fund under the auspices of Arabella Advisors, see the suits as fodder for potential challenges to the election. In other words, the problem in the Capital Journal’s frame is challenging non-citizens voting in the first place.

LaRose’s lawsuit to keep non-citizens from voting in Ohio is only the latest attempt to wrestle election integrity from the jaws of liberal activist groups and foreign influence.

The ACLU filed an amicus brief in an Ohio Democratic Party lawsuit against LaRose over a directive saying only citizens returning their own ballot can use state ballot drop boxes.

Arabella Advisors, for its part, directs liberal dark money groups, and its funds enjoy massive support from foreign billionaires like Hansjorg Wyss and George Soros. The 1630 Fund, which backs the Capital Journal’s parent, States Newsroom, was instrumental in funding Ohio’s Issue 1 and changing the landscape of Ohio’s constitution in 2022.

Ohio state legislators sounded the alarm on foreign money in Ohio elections this year, passing a highly-contested bill blocking foreign money from going to Ohio political campaigns and ballot initiatives.

The law was gutted by a George W. Bush-appointed Federal District Court judge, Michael Watson.
